Improving your Website Design

Do not plan on too many graphics as they can cause your site to load too slowly. Visitors will get irritated and often want to leave your site. When possible save your graphics in gif rather than jpg formats. Decrease the sizes of graphics as much as you can without distorting the graphic or picture.

Hide your visitor counter unless you are sure that you are going to have tremendous traffic on your site. Most web hosting companies will anyway offer web statistics that reveal daily visitors, hits, referrers, etc. This feature will let you know how many people are visiting your site without you showing this information to the visitors on your site.

Banners can put off a lot of visitors as they are often slow loading. If you do have a few banners, place them at the very top or bottom of your page. You could at the most place a small banner in your sidebar. Make sure the banners on your site are related to your product or service.

During web site design, make sure your website has a pattern that leads your visitor. Get your friends to visit your site and watch them as they navigate. Notice the places where they stop and also links that they click on. Good web site design should lead visitors to very important sections or lead them to buy services or products depending on what you want them to do.

The web site design should ensure that the content is legible and easy to read. The web site's logo and name should feature prominently.
